Grennan College kicked off its Energy Monitoring Programme with Susliving Tech Mentors Kevin, Elmer and Zaki delivering the first workshop. With a healthy mix of about thirty first, second and transition year students, and teacher Laura Hevrin, the group represents students from across the 350-strong population of the school.
The group were very responsive as Kevin went through the story of energy, and Elmer and Zaki developed the basis of energy monitoring. Dividing into groups of ten, we began the monitoring process, with each group surveying a different classroom for energy usage, recording the class size and structure, and listing all equipment which consumes energy. Demonstrating the importance of making others aware of the Energy Monitoring Programme, each group made a short presentation reporting the results of their survey.
The students were enthusiastic to form an Energy Team, which will meet regularly over the coming weeks with Ms Hevrin to continue their survey of the school’s classrooms. In the next Energy Monitoring Programme workshop we will continue on from the monitoring process and develop the Energy Team’s strategy to communicate the programe to the rest of the school.
