Susliving Tech Mentors Zaki and Elmer took part in a courtyard growing demonstration at Grennan College in Thomastown.
Transition Year students have been working on a project constructing plant containers from recycled wood, which look very attractive and will be placed in a courtyard. The containers will then be planted up with various herbs and vegetable plants, to be used in the Home Economics class.
The planters will form a attractive feature and add to the biodiversity in the school. As Thomastown has been designated an Irish ‘Town of Food’, this demonstration has relevance in the wider community also.
The hands-on Susliving demonstration allowed this group of enthustastic Transition Year students to sow seeds of microgreens and other vegetable plants, and involved them in the potting up of a range of herbs that will be ready for planting in the wooden containers.
