December 9th and 10th saw Susliving travel to the Abbott Ireland Nutrition Division in Cootehill, Co. Cavan to take part in the their Eco Awareness Week.
The Susliving team delivered a series of workshops on green energy; garden-to-table food and the recycling and repurposing of waste material. These workshops were attended by enthusiastic and interested employees from all sections of the Abbott Ireland factory over the two days.
There was particular interest in practical ways of saving energy in the home and making pallet furniture, as well as the growing of suitable trees for coppicing that provide fuel for stoves in the home.
Abbott Ireland have a record of monitoring and reducing environmental impact and energy consumption across their processes, as well as implementing expansive policies targeting energy efficiency and reducing their energy footprint. As with their other approaches, Eco Awareness Week was a very worthwhile initiative. The workshops were very practical and hands on, and all participants were encouraged to share problems that were resolved with the help of the Susliving Tech Mentors.
The Eco Awareness Week continued in Abbott Ireland’s Cootehill factory with a visit from Kingspan, who provided practical energy and water management advise, and a further workshop given by Micheal Galvin (SEAI), who outlined energy saving technologies and practises for the home and community.
The growing awareness of a generation in the importance of energy saving and extends to compost making, growing food sustainably and reusing waste materials in a practical way. All of these are factors in ensuring that the world’s resources are used wisely and Abbott Ireland’s Eco Awareness Week was an important step in continuing this awareness.
