Green Schools Committee Showcase Sustainability Suggestions
Students from the Green Schools Committee in Templecarraig School in Greystones, Co. Wicklow delivered an impressive presentation on sustainability in and around their new school premises. The presentation, which is available to view using the link below, focused on the different aspects of sustainability which need to be considered with their move into the new school. The students presented their findings and suggestions across a range of topics and had some fantastic methods for saving energy based on their findings.
The food section of the presentation looked at ways of providing healthier food options in the new school and increasing awareness of nutrition. Water suggested ways of reducing water use and waste in cisterns and taps, and ventilation focused on the advantages of using heat recovery and suitable ventilation systems. Electricity and heat both had great suggestions for reducing waste and saving money as a result. Finally, the soil section of the presentation examined the ways of promoting plant growth and maintaining soil health on the new grounds, both for aesthetic and growing purposes.
